24 Hours and counting
So I have been awake for 24 + hours and now that I am home I can't seem to get to sleep so I'm eating pizza and playing some World of Warcraft with the family, I know LOL can you say geeks. I spent 12 hours on an over night ER shift followed by a full day at the clinic. One of the coolest things I got to do last night was insert a Femoral Venous Catheter, do stitches, work in the pediatric ER and remove little beads from two kids ears. During this rotation I have also had a chance to do a digital rectal exam and feel a really large and bumpy prostate, perform a breast and pelvic exam and a pap smear, see numerous central lines and chest tubes inserted and watch a stent placed in the left anterior descending coronary artery after what is known as a "widow maker" heart attack. I"ve seen stroke alerts, STEMI alerts, gun shot wounds, I've been called "the evil white doctor". I've been given complements and told I'm going to be a great doctor. I've been yelled at, thanked, praised, and exhausted. It's only been 4 weeks and this is only family medicine. What can I say...I LOVE MY LIFE!!! I have the next two days off and I really need to study just as soon as I catch up on some sleep.

LOL I love your life, too! I can't believe how the time flies and you are already on rotations. I've been following you for a while and doing the Ross Med journey vicariously through you. Keep it up! I'm rooting for you! I am also in my 30's and hope to join the Ross crew next year, too. Thanks for your inspiration and motivation.
